Sto guardando Presa Diretta e, considerando che mi aspetto reazioni scomposte tra alcune delle mie conoscenze, mi permetto di fare alcune considerazioni in ordine sparso.
La trasmissione inizia male: chiama “articolo” la lettera pubblicata su Science in cui alcuni scienziati chiedono legittimamente di non trascurare il laboratorio di Whuan nelle indagini sull’origine del virus. C’è una bella differenza tra una lettera, dove per quanto legittime vengono espresse opinioni, e un articolo, dove vengono presentati dati che vengono verificati da terze parti.
Viene insinuato il dubbio che Fauci abbia finanziato occultamente ricerche proibite in USA, nel video si vede un momento dell’interrogazione di Fauci da parte del Senatore Repubblicano Rand Paul, Presa Diretta insinua un conflitto di interessi di Fauci ma non menziona il fatto che Rand Paul è stato un sostenitore di Trump e che ha avuto posizioni negazioniste sulla pandemia e non solo.
Viene detto correttamente che nella scienza contano i fatti e non le opinioni, peccato che molte delle insinuazioni fatte fino ad ora nella trasmissione sono basate su opinioni (mentre scrivo sono le 23:00), ad esempio: – Viene chiesta l’opinione ad una giornalista, non una scienziata, che ritiene probabile l’origine dal laboratorio in quanto è cominciata in un laboratorio dove venivano fatti esperimenti su virus chimerici, dunque una opinione, non un fatto. – Ci si chiede come mai degli scienziati prima pubblichino una lettera dove sospettano che il virus abbia avuto origine in un laboratorio ma poi pubblichino un articolo in cui viene detto il contrario, di nuovo vengono messi sullo stesso piano opinioni e fatti.
Non viene minimamente citato il fatto che risalire all’origine di uno spillover sia una cosa complicata e lunga, ad esempio potrei sbagliare ma a tutt’oggi non si hanno certezze su quale sia il serbatoio di Ebola. Al contrario il messaggio che passa è che il motivo per cui non si sanno certe cose sia da ricondurre esclusivamente a conflitti di interesse e omertà.
Una trasmissione in prima serata di un servizio pubblico dovrebbe preoccuparsi che il pubblico abbia un minimo di strumenti per capire di cosa si parla, quanti spettatori sanno cosa sia un virus? Quanti sanno cosa è un virus chimerico? Questo approccio è ancora più grave in questo periodo storico dove il rischio di cadere in inganno è altissimo.
Un argomento così delicato andrebbe trattato con più rigore senza lasciare a se stessi giornalisti che non hanno competenze in temi scientifici e preferibilmente senza fare uso di musiche in sottofondo per drammatizzare temi che non ne hanno certo bisogno.
Ognuno si faccia la propria opinione, ma mi permetto di dare un consiglio: non prendete una trasmissione televisiva come fonte principale della verità e mettete alla prova tutto ciò che ascoltate, a maggior ragione se si parla di temi che non si conoscono.
Ci usano come cavie! Stanno sperimentando i vaccini su di noi!

No, succede sempre così con tutti i farmaci. Tra l’altro è fatta nell’interesse dei pazienti, perché obbliga i produttori a tenere sotto controllo i farmaci per tutto il loro ciclo vitale e indipendentemente dal fatto che siano stati approvati per la vendita.
Mah lo dici tu, oltretutto hanno fatto tutto di fretta, avranno sicuramente saltato dei passaggi!
Non lo dico io, lo dicono le norme e nessun passaggio è stato saltato. L’approvazione di un farmaco consiste in un processo sequenziale (si chiama processo “waterfall”). Per la prima volta, in uno sforzo congiunto, i produttori si sono presi il rischio di eseguire i test in parallelo (o quasi) e allo stesso tempo gli enti certificatori, che di solito pretendono di avere tutti i dati in una volta sola, hanno collaborato valutando gli stessi appena erano disponibili (facendo una “rolling review”). Sul sito di EMA c’è una infografica che te lo spiega in modo semplice. Ma poi, tu che cosa ne sai di queste cose?
Va beh, beato te che hai certezze, io invece mi pongo dubbi sulla mia salute e mi informo (si, ma dove? NdA), e poi posso esprimere liberamente la mia opinione? O volete anche censurare la libertà di pensiero?
“Voi” chi? Continua pure a darmi del tu, tranquillo, il “voi” ha quel retrogusto di ventennio che piace molto a certi amanti della libertà che erano in piazza l’altro giorno, lasciamo stare, dai. E poi, chi ti sta censurando se quello che hai scritto è lì, bello visibile a tutti? Come tu sei libero di esprimere la tua opinione su un post pubblico io sono altrettanto libero di farti notare che stai dicendo cose sbagliate… Addio… ah dimenticavo: grazie per insegnarmi il lavoro.

Nowadays Amazon is widely used, outshining other e-commerce platforms and bringing lot of additional services that improve and enrich the User Experience.
For reasons that I will try to summarize in this post, I seldomly used Amazon, however during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic I’ve been somewhat forced to subscribe to a Prime account. After trying several options, the only affordable way I’ve found to get grocery shopping delivered at home was to buy from a supermarket brand that uses Prime as e-commerce platform. Later on, thanks to a promotion, I’ve received a one year extension to my Prime account. So, my decision to renew it or not will be next year.
Let me clarify: I am happy to use Prime, I am not one of those who criticize Amazon and at the same time sells their products on it. The intention of this article is more to make a retrospective evaluation of the service after one year as a customer.
Additionally, considering the previously mentioned example of the supermarket, I think that their choice to partnering with Amazon is a clever choice: Instead of creating and maintaining an e-commerce platform from scratch, they decided to leverage on a well established one, not to mention that User Experience will be familar to most of the customers.
Just one additional thing before getting into the topic: Please remember that the following list is Just a collection of personal considerations, it is not a critic to Amazon or e-commerce in general and there is nothing wrong in having Prime.
let’s start:
You may over abuse the service.
I suppose that marketing specialists know very well the following effect: When you go at your usual mall you always buy more stuff than the things you was looking for. Prime extends this phenomenon, it is like being at the mall 24 hours a day. Worst, you don’t stumble upon the goods, it’s the system that propose them to you in a subtle way: it’s algorithm is very clever in understanding your interests. Additionally, goods are presented in discrete way that makes you feel that you are not biased in your decision to purchase.
It is not 100% ethical.
Here I am not referring about where Amazon pay taxes or about job conditions in the company. those can be definitely issues but they are politics business: there should be laws to force Amazon to pay taxes in the appropriate country (if it doesn’t) or controls to ensure laws are respected (yes EU, I am talking to you). Asking people to boycott is simply ipochrital and uneffective. If politicians ask people to boycott a legal service, they are simply passing the buck because they are unable to do their job.
The point is that amazon is selling to you ANY sort of goods, even frauds like 5G radiation shields (!), any sort of pseudoscientific items, books promoting fake news and so on. Whatever Amazon says, its purpose is to make money, they don’t really care too much if what they sell is 100% fair. Someone could say that User’s vote is an intrinsic protection against fraud, but it is not true and indeed is, again, passing the buck.
You pay for giving a service to them.
It may seem like a small fee to get free shipping, however the Prime service also uses your personal data to profile you. You don’t have full control over how and what your data is used for. It’s not just about shopping habits, just think about the audio samples collected by Alexa, geo-referenced metadata of your photos and much more. This topic on the use of personal data and the algorithms that process them is becoming more and more relevant, for this reason the The EU is flourishing to define policies and rules. Perhaps it is appropriate to make those who govern us understand that the issue is important to us instead of showing ourselves as passive buyers of a service, just like kids who need parental guidance.
It is a closed system.
Think about Kindle, it uses a proprietary format instead of standard. epub. AFAIK, you cannot use epub documents on Kindle unless you convert into its proprietary, closed format. Additionally, AFAIK, Amazon does not provide you a simple tool to convert files.
We already mentioned Alexa: the Alexa ecosystem in itself is a closed system, once again nothing wrong with it, however you may consider that when you buy a compatible product (a surveilance camera, a smart plug etc.) you are basically sponsoring Amazon ecosystem by encouraging (forcing?) producers to adopt that particular system and, I suppose, pay royalties to Amazon.
Is it sustainable?
At first glance, yes, since to make our purchases we are no longer forced to move from one store to another and e-commerce sites have integrated logistics that limits the waste of time and energy. However, especially when we make single purchases of small items, we are generating an increase in packaging, not to mention the increase in the handling of goods worldwide, I would be curious how much merchandises we could have bought from a manufacturer from our continent was present in the containers of the Ever-Given ship which ran aground in the Suez Strait.
Final Thoughts
So what? Is Amazon the absolute evil? Should I Stop Buying on the Internet? Of course not, e-commerce will increasingly be part of our life, at least until someone has a brilliant idea or a new technology will allow us to create something that at the moment remains unknown (telepathy? Prediction of the future? Who knows .. .).
What can we do then? Personally I think that as users we have a duty not to let ourselves be polarized by those who exploit new technologies (black / white, good / bad) and to avoid a “passive” approach to them. Rather, we must be aware and responsible for our actions, even the simplest ones such as buying an item for 1 € including shipping, and try to navigate the sea of complexity that is our time in the best possible way.

Appena saputo della morte di Chick Corea avrei voluto pubblicare una delle foto che feci durante un memorabile concerto della Chick Corea Electric Band al Teatro Colosseo di Torino. Oppure il suo autografo fatto su uno scontrino del caffè al termine di un altro concerto al Colosseo, ma quella volta era un solo piano, Children’s Song, di cui peraltro avevo anche una registrazione pirata andata persa (Pedro…mortacccc) Quella volta gli strinsi anche la mano, ho sempre pensato che avermi permesso di toccare i suoi “ferri del mestiere” fosse stata una mossa azzardata da parte sua. Purtroppo questi cimeli sono è al momento seppelliti in cantina, se ne parlerà tra qualche giorno.
La sua arte mi ha sempre accompagnato sotto traccia, direttamente con i suoi lavori personali o indirettamente attraverso i Return to Forever e la Chick Corea Band (alcuni riferimenti chitarristici come Al Di Meola o Frank Gambale e tanto altro). Anche la sua discutibile adesione ad una setta religiosa che ha truffato molta gente per il mondo mi ha costretto a pormi domande e a farmi capire che nessuna anima può essere immacolata al 100%

Aveva ricevuto attenzione dai media quando, durante la campagna elettorale, fece uno spot insieme al suo rivale per mettere in evidenza come la loro competizione fosse sui programmi e non sul disprezzo dell’altro (insomma, roba da fantascienza).
Non ho la più pallida idea di quale siano le sue idee. Immagino che se andassi ad approfondire troverei diversi punti di disaccordo, tuttavia con ieri abbiamo fatto un ulteriore passo indietro e la questione non è essere di “destra” o di “sinistra”, qui stiamo ripartendo dalle “buone maniere” che ci insegnava la mamma, una bella figuraccia per una specie che vorrebbe andare su Marte.
Ecco io vorrei che la politica, che oltretutto pago, usasse sempre questo registro:

Cosa ho visto questa sera?
Forse dovrei dire cosa non ho visto: non ho visto un afroamericano tra i facinorosi, se c’erano erano in concentrazioni omeopatiche, alla faccia del presidente del popolo.
Non ho visto mascherine, c’era qualcuno che la portava ma erano veramente pochi il che mi fa dire che oltre ad essere dei teppisti sono pure coglioni dato che hanno mostrato la loro faccia al mondo intero.
Per una volta non ho visto la polizia sparare alle persone, verrebbe da chiedersi se ci sia una correlazione con il primo punto in elenco. Anzi, ho visto alcuni agenti spostare le transenne per facilitare l’accesso delle persone nelle aree riservate.
Ci sarebbe molto altro da dire ma, sappiatelo, se davvero credete di avere serie argomentazioni per giustificare un simile comportamento non ve la prendete se sarò molto intransigente, piuttosto vi consiglio di portare le vostre solide tesi alla corte suprema americana.
“L’America è migliore di quella che abbiamo visto oggi” ha appena dichiarato Mike Pompeo. No, mi dispiace Mr Pompeo, l’America è tante cose, anche quella che abbiamo visto oggi e lei e il suo capo ne siete responsabili.
Mi imbatto per caso in questa fantomatica rubrica di approfondimento di RAI2. TG2 Post, tema della puntata: “Fake News”.
La cosa mi incuriosisce, voglio vedere come affronta il tema una trasmissione che solo poche settimane fa aveva dato spazio alle teorie mai verificate di Luc Montagnier.
Me la sono cercata.
La prima assurdità la spara la conduttrice:
“Noi giornalisti prima di dare una notizia verifichiamo che ci siano almeno 3 fonti che la riportino” (sic) Dunque secondo questo criterio è lecito usare i miei soldi del canone per riportare il fatto che, per esempio, non siamo andati sulla Luna (Lo hanno detto Kaysing, Minoli e altri che non voglio neanche citare)
Poi parla il direttore del TG2, Gennaro Sangiuliano, giornalista pluripremiato ed ex politico che mi spiega che il confine tra “fake news” e libera opinione (perché non, chessò, “free opinion”?) è labile e mi fa un esempio:
“nel 1910 a Firenze ci fu un’esposizione di pittori stranieri che fu stroncata dai giornali dell’epoca che definivano le opere di Degas, Matisse e altri come di poco conto, mentre sappiamo tutti che non è così”
Dunque il direttore di una testata giornalistica nazionale non è in grado di distinguere un’opinione soggettiva (un artista è bravo) da un’affermazione falsa non supportata da prove.
Rimpiango gli anni felici quando non possedevo il televisore.

Two years ago the pilot episode was well accepted, so I decided to continue with a super-slow pace (luckily I have a real life out there)
I have now several topics to address, but a recent episode related to redundancy triggered my attention.
Small (redundant) disclaimer
As the rest of this blog, what I write is my personal opinion, it does not pretend to be the Truth and it is not related to my employer.
Additionally I would clarify that my intention is not to blame in retrospect the work made by others, this is a very unfair and boring behavior that seems to be very common, particularly with politician. I do my mistakes as well and the intention here is to think about how to improve.
Just say it once and clearly.
Suppose you have to notify the user with some important message, is duplicating the message the most effective solution? I don’t think so.

Nothing special here, apart from a tiny detail:
About 2 weeks ago the name of the provider changed its label into “VF IT IoRestoACasa” (Vodafone Italy IStayAtHome).
Probably someone in Vodafone thought a nice thing to remember people to stay at home during the Coronavirus Pandemic, after all in this period this message is repeated in all the possible ways.
Honestly, I don’t think this example is really critical, however someone with poor confidence in technology may be concerned: “Maybe I did some mistake and I am now connected in roaming to a different network, with extra costs”. If you think I am overshooting consider that several italian newspapers and information sites published explanation because they reported about worried users.
Although unlikely, it may also be possible that changing the name of the operator could impact some ill-designed app that is using it for some reason.
Additionally, someone like me who is respecting the rules is getting bored to read the same message everywhere/every time. I know guys, really. Did it add significant advantage to tell people to stay at home in a tiny string placed in the corner of the lock screen?
Redundant messages remember me those nagging girlfriends continuously asking you to go to the cinema (or else/worse).
Final thoughts
More generally, on UI there may be solutions more effective than redundancy or repetition to display data:
Consider instead to have “nested information” i.e. in case of an alarm you could have a generic alarm indication more visible and another indicator that provides you details of the issue placed in a peripheral area of your display.
Do not mix information types: in the field of the network operator put the name of the operator, not messages related to my personal safety.
Think as the user: repeated information may get him bored and he eventually may stop using your system. I personally stopped using a “Drive mode” App because every time I received a message it was telling me (speaking) what to do to listen to the message.
If really necessary consider that the update of a duplicated information must be done in a synchronous way to avoid contradictions.
Finally, duplicated information on a UI means overhead in maintenance, this is definitively not Lean and prone to errors.

TG Leonardo è una bella trasmissione, tanto bella che se la filano in pochi, meno che mai i complottisti (dopotutto è informazione di “regime”).
Mi chiedevo come fosse possibile che qualcuno riuscisse a ripescare un breve servizio di 5 anni fa. Chi ha riscoperto questo servizio?
Nel giro di poche ore il servizio rimbalza su “autorevoli” trasmissioni della rete Mediaset quali Striscia la notizia e la trasmissione di Giordano su Rete4 (non so neanche come si chiami) che credo siano addirittura registrate.
Ovviamente il servizio è decontestualizzato, non si pone il dubbio ma si insinua una certezza.
Ma come è possibile?
Non riuscivo a capire finché scopro che due spregiudicati politici dell’opposizione, famosi per il loro assenteismo, per la loro scarsa preparazione culturale ma sopratutto per avere un efficiente staff della comunicazione, pubblicano sui social network la loro indignazione chiedendo a gran voce interrogazioni parlamentari e… facendo gran rumore.
Il loro staff… Gente pagata per cercare in continuazione notizie e pretesti, rielaborarle per poi trasformarle in provocazioni allo scopo di aumentare la visibilità del committente.
Dopotutto fare sciacallaggio politico è più semplice che modificare 5000 geni in un virus, no?
